Description

Subject Matter:

After Knoxville, Tennessee, Lyon traveled to Galveston, Texas. He had not found the material he had hoped to find in Knoxville. In Galveston, he photographed people and places that were outside of mainstream America. He met seventeen year old Pumpkin Renee, a transgender woman who identified as a "female impersonator and homosexual." Lyon made recordings of her speaking about her experiences. In this image, Pumpkin reclines in her bed, displaying Dionne Warwick's album "Make Way for Dionne Warwick."

Physical Description:

A photograph of a woman reclining in her bed. A vinyl record titled "Make Way for Dionne Warwick" is propped up on her legs.
