Quarzo VIII
Giuseppe Capogrossi; Erker Presse, St. Gallen
Description
Subject Matter:
Part of a suite of prints called "Quartz," this work depicts Capogrossi's iconic pronged figures, which were developed after WWII. This artist's proof was created just two years before the artist's death in 1972 and shows his mature style. After abandoning figuration, Capogrossi's developed these shapes that repeat in the majority of his works. They are abstract signs; at once fingers, teeth, combs, forks, etc. These signs are always ordered within the composition to create a new kind of pictorial depiction.
Physical Description:
This print has four columns of three- and four-pronged objects. Some of the objects are pointing down and others are directed up. The figures are striped in black and white and are set against a yellow background. The print is signed (l.r.) "Capogrossi" and editioned (l.l.) "p.a." in pencil.
