Description

Subject Matter:

Marilyn Bridges describes the markings and monuments that she photographs from above as “the messages of humankind.” As a pilot and photographer, she documents contemporary landscapes connected to ancient times, which addresses the human relationship to the earth and environment. Bridges depicts the Statue of Liberty in New York City during the reconstruction period of 1984-1986. Looking down on the monument, with the water glimmering, the viewer sees the iconic structure from an unusual perspective during her rehabilitation.

Physical Description:

This photograph depicts an aerial view of a statue surrounded by construction scaffolding on an island surrounded by water.
