Description

Subject Matter:

Copied from (1958/2.2)
Saito Kiyoshi was a 20th-century Sosaku-hanga artist, a movement that emphasized self-expression and the individual creation of prints. He issued his first prints in the now-famous "Winter in Aizu" series. This series was based on his hometown in Fukushima prefecture.

Saito Kiyoshi's work shows a wide variety of styles and topics which were influenced much by world happenings and his own mentors. This piece possibly reflects an idea of surveillance (the eye in the flower) and the arrival of widespread technology (the power lines).

Physical Description:

This colorful woodblock shows a red flower with an eye in the center. The flower flanks a small street that leads to a white picket fence and power lines. There is a signature on the bottom right.
