Subject Matter:
Saito Kiyoshi printed nudes in the earlier middle of his career and once again later in his career after a particularly bad slump.
This first series of nudes in the 50s reflects his rising popularity in the West.
Again, the wood grain visible in this piece is to acknowledge the process of printmaking as well as to add texture.
Physical Description:
This red and black print depicts a nude woman. She faces to the right and her whole torso is in view. There is a signature at the bottom left.
