Description

Subject Matter:

Richard Sapper was a German industrial designer who shared a similar attitude toward design as Paul Rand. Sapper’s designs were functional, but were always witty. This poster by Rand advertises a museum exhibition of Sapper’s work. Rand uses a muted tonal palette of black, white, and gray in order to emphasize the formal qualities of Sapper’s designs. Rand depicts three of Sapper’s Tizio lamps intersecting against a black background. Rather than being recognized for their functionality, the lamps are seen in terms of their dynamic forms.
