Description

Subject Matter:

One of 12 prints that comprise the "Bodie" portfolio, this photograph of a rocking chair on the front porch of an abandoned house encapsulates the spirit of this ghost town in Bodie, California. After a boom in the 1870s and 80s, Bodie continued to decline into the twentieth century until it was abandoned completely. The empty rocking chair, perched precariously at the edge of a dilapidated porch, with weeds growing in the yard in front of it, functions as an emblem or spectre of this formerly bustling gold town.
