Description

Subject Matter:

Lombard summered in Monhegan, Maine and developed much of his aesthetic and subject matter there. Monhegan was a well known artist colony that had existed since the mid-nineteenth century. In this image, Lombard depicts the waves and rocks as precise, geometric shapes. It moves away from a purely Naturalist mode and distills natural objects to their most basic elements.
