Description

Subject Matter:

Vaclav Vytlacil was an American artist and educator who helped found the American Abstract Artists association. His earlier works were more characteristic of a modernist style but in the 1940s and 1950s he became more focused on abstract landscapes that featured a liberal use of color and a less stringent structure. Rocky Mountains is an abstract landscape of snow covered mountains within the Rocky Mountain range. A small town sits at the base of the mountain which is covered with what appear to be ski lifts and trails.

Physical Description:

This loosely sketched landscape shows a large white mountain with blue sky beyond. Some details and highlights are created in yellows, reds and blacks.
