Running Water, Roaring Fork Road, Gt. Smoky Mts., 10 Oct.1967
Eliot Porter
Description
Subject Matter:
This photograph depicts a close-up view of a small forest stream as it cascades down a series of rocky ledges. Extending from the top of the image, thin streams of water trickle down the sides of algae-draped boulders, meeting a ledge in the center of the frame, and continuing their flow down off the bottom of the image. Strewn across the soaked blackness of the rocks, a smattering of yellow, red, and orange fallen leaves lay across the banks of the stream. The silken moisture of the mossy scene evokes a sense of the vitality and flow of the forest’s ecosystem, and offers a sense of peace and tranquility.
