Samuel Wylie Crawford, Brig. Gen. & B’vt. Maj. Gen. Vols. and Lieut. Col. 2nd Inf. & B’vt. Maj. Gen. U.S.A. and his Staff
Mathew B. Brady
Description
Subject Matter:
In this photograph, General Samuel Crawford—second from left—and three unidentified members of his staff assume neutral facial expressions and only slightly varied poses as they stand up against a blank wall. The general is distinguished from the others not only by his lighter-toned trousers—likely pale blue—but also by his greater height. Here the officers pose for the photographer Mathew Brady, whose studios in New York City and Washington, D.C. produced a large number of cartes-de-visite of United States Army and Navy officers during the American Civil War (1861-1865).
Physical Description:
Full-length, standing portrait of four men in military uniforms.
