Description

Subject Matter:

Marilyn Bridges describes the markings and monuments that she photographs from above as “the messages of humankind.” As a pilot and photographer, she documents contemporary landscapes connected to ancient times, which addresses the human relationship to the earth and environment. In this photograph, Bridges focuses on the Serpent Mound in Ohio and its surrounding landscape. It is an effigy mound in the shape of a snake with a curled tail emerging between trees. This location is believed to have been used for ceremonial puproses.
