Sling-Shots Lit #6
Robert Rauschenberg; Gemini G.E.L.
Description
Subject Matter:
This is one of a larger series of works titled Sling Shot that Rauschenberg created in the mid-1980s. A series of photographs are layered on top of each other, some repeated and/or reversed, creating a kind of three-dimensional collage. The photographs in this iteration show industrial scenes, architecture, public sculpture, and German and English language advertising images, with the words "Color Tinting" featured prominently in the upper left corner. Growing from his earlier Pop assemblages, the title of the work conjures images of childhood play, while the scenes create a kind of collaged image of a city.
Physical Description:
This mixed media assemblage has a series of see-through panels hanging from a wooden frame with a lightbox at the back. On the hanging panels, there are photographs printed, with a variety of images of buildings, sculpture, and advertising.
