Description

Subject Matter:

This print was part of a collaborative album of poetry and lithographs called Lettera Amorosa. The poetry was written by Rene Char while Braque created the lithographs inspired by Char's words.  In this print, Braque features a bird motif, prominent in his later years.  The flying birds often characterize the freedom of Braque's art and spirit.

Physical Description:

This print shows two flying birds, facing each other with their beaks touching encircled in a ring reminiscent of a window.  The birds and ring are a deep purple color.  There are hints of yellow around the birds and an inky mix of soft beiges, browns, and greys makes up the background within the ring.
