Description

Subject Matter:

Peterdi was a printmaker who was most inspired by landscapes and nature. In this print titled, Spawning, he shows fish releasing their eggs and texture reminiscent of tree rings and roots or life at microscopic levels. Peterdi was born in Hungary and then worked for a period in Italy and Paris before coming to New York City during World War II. He worked for a time at Stanley William Hayter's New York printing studio, Atelier 17.

Physical Description:

This print has a brown area on the top and green on the bottom with a white section running between them as a river runs between land. The white section has thin black lines outlining the shape of fish and creating texture. Black vertical lines run top to bottom over all sections.
