Description

Subject Matter:

Marilyn Bridges describes the markings and monuments that she photographs from above as “the messages of humankind.” As a pilot and photographer, she documents contemporary landscapes connected to ancient times, which addresses the human relationship to the earth and environment. This photograph depicts a spire in Monument Valley on the Colorado Plateau on the border of Utah and Arizona, located on the Navajo Indian Reservation. This spire, a natural sandstone rock formation, is illuminated by the sun and casts a dramatic shadow on the desert landscape.
