Description

Subject Matter:

Copied from (1958/2.2)
Saito Kiyoshi was a 20th-century Sosaku-hanga artist, a movement that emphasized self-expression and the individual creation of prints. He issued his first prints in the now-famous "Winter in Aizu" series. This series was based on his hometown in Fukushima prefecture.

This print gives us a possible impression of anatomy. The flowers are oriented in a way that looks like sinuses and the brown object could be a trachea or esophagus.

Physical Description:

This print shows a portrait of a man looking right. His eye is open and looking directly at the viewer and is inside of a teardrop shape. There are flowers that go from his nose up to the crown of his head. There is a brown tube at his neck. A signature is in the lower left.
