Description
Albert Gleizes, with his friend Jean Metzinger, was in 1912 the author of the important book "On Cubism," the first attempt to explain the new style in prose. Gleizes's style is simple, direct and bold.
Subject Matter:
Still Life is an example of the abstract and Cubist style of Albert Gleizes. He is considered to have been one of the leading artists in the Cubist and abstract movements and often worked on still lifes. Gleizes was born in France and was a theorist as well as a printmaker.
Physical Description:
This abstract composition depicts layered geometric shapes in the Cubist still life style, showing abstract bottles or musical instruments or pages from newspapers. The shapes are flat and outined in black line, some are black, some white and some have different stripe patterns.
