Storm
Eva Watson Schütze; Alfred Stieglitz
Description
Subject Matter:
This depiction of a rural landscape is comprised of geometric planes, created by the fields in the foreground, the horizon line at center, and the vast, stormy sky above. On the horizon line sits multiple barns and a house, with another home visible in the distance. The near foreground is made up of two planes, the closest is made up of a field of leafy crops. The second triangular space in the mid-ground consists of a field of tall grass. Above the horizon, storm clouds loom. The overall effect of the composition creates a geometric sensibility, with a focus on the tonal variation between planes.
Physical Description:
This vertically-oriented landscape depicts a rural farm in the distance, with houses and barns. Above the horizon line, on which the houses rest, are large storm clouds. Farmland stretches through the bottom half of the image.
