Description

Subject Matter:

Taken from a cover for a book by Igor Stravinsky, “Poetics of Music in the Form of Six Lessons,” Paul Rand creates a portrait of the composer in the abstract style of Picasso. Rand riffs on the topic of the book, music, by incorporating the musical staff in the background, and then composing the portrait with dots that could be interpreted as musical notes. Rand recreated the image used for the book in the form of a silkscreen print for this poster.
