Subject Matter:
In this photograph, a manhole cover on a New York City street is excised from its environment. Photographed top-down and tightly cropped, the criss-crossed patterned ridges of the manhole cover appear nearly flat, as if autonomous objects jostling alongside littered cigarette butts and other trash.
