Description

Subject Matter:

Many renaissance artists drew groups of figures, draperies, heads or limbs, often focusing on one object from different angles and vantage points. Here, we see a frontal bearded head, a full female figure, and two other versions of the same man’s heads in profile. Each element is at a different distance. Francesco Salviati, an artist from Florence, may have been practicing and experimenting with how he would create figures in a larger artwork.
