Description

Subject Matter:

In 1908, Dufy worked in George Braque's studio, at L'Estaque in the South of France, and the influence of the newly-created Cubist style can be seen in these two sketches. This double sided drawing shows the artist's interest in exploring the form of seated women in two poses but with a Cubist twist. Their bodies are simplified into geometric forms.

Physical Description:

This drawing has sketches of women on both sides of the paper. The front (recto) image shows a seated woman with her hands in her lap and she faces forward. The reverse (verso) side shows another seated woman and also sketches of clothing. On the front, the artist has signed (l.r.) "R Dufy" in pencil.
