Description

Subject Matter:

Theodore Roszak began to make welded steel sculptures that were inspired by nature in the late 1940s and early 1950s when he became horrified by the destruction caused by World War II. This drawing is a study for the sculpture titled Sea Sentinel that the artist completed two years later in 1955.

Physical Description:

This study for an abstract but figural sculpture shows a creature on the left of the print with four legs and a large crescent shape body leaning in from the left to the center of the print. From the middle of the crescent emerges a tongue-like crescent in gold.
