Description

Subject Matter:

This is a portrait of Alexina "Teeny" Matisse. She was the wife of Henri Matisse's youngest son, Pierre. She later separated from Pierre and eventually married Marcel Duchamp, but Henri remained fond of her and completed numerous drawings and prints of her likeness. A version of this print appeared in the 1938 Christmas edition of the art review XXe siècle.

Physical Description:

This print is a white line drawing of a woman on black ground. The woman with a longish face and wavy hair wears a striped shirt. Sinuous vertical lines and dashes make up the pattern of the background.
