Description

Subject Matter:

This image depicts the Temple of Hathor at Dendera (called Denderah in French), one of the best preserved temple complexes in Egypt. The camera appears to have been positioned at an oblique angle to the proper right corner of the building so that the depth of the structure is conveyed. The complex is in a partial state of ruin, particularly in the foreground where a shallow brick wall is visible amidst the dirt. Strong shadows cast between the six columns on the front of the temple obscure the view inside the building, drawing attention to the decorative freeze and sculptural qualities of the columns on the temple's façade.
