Description

Subject Matter:

This detail of the Temple of Kalabsha depicts the ancient Egyptian site in a state of near ruin. The close framing of the temple structure and the stones in the foreground of the image emphasize the building's current state of decay, while the figures standing in front of the temple offer a sense of scale. This was one of many photographs that Beato took of the Temple of Kalabsha, which range from overarching views to details of columns and other aspects of the structure.

Physical Description:

Façade of an Egyptian temple structure in a state of partial ruin.
