Subject Matter:

The painting depicts a young beggar with outstretched hand, a popular "social type" for sentimental genre painting during the eighteenth and early nineteenth century.

Physical Description:

A boy in a white shirt with a tan vest holds up an empty hand toward the viewer. He has light brown colored hair and red cheeks. The boy is depicted against a dark background.
