Description

Subject Matter:

This overarching view of the Colosseum in Rome, the largest amphitheatre ever built, depicts the structure from a distance so that its size and scale within the urban environment are clearly communicated. Eaton chose a viewpoint that allows the partially intact outer wall and mostly intact inner wall of the structure both to be visible, a perspective that likely would have appealed to the tourist buyer for whom the image was made.
