The Heart of Paris
Wilfred Byron Shaw
Description
Subject Matter:
This print depicts the Seine river in Paris with the Notre Dame cathedral in the background. It is likely a reflection on a trip Shaw took to Paris as he was already working for The University of Michigan's Alumni Association at the time of its creation. This work is characteristic of the many etchings Wilfred Byron Shaw completed in his lifetime.
Physical Description:
This work is an etching showing a river and a cathedral on the other side. The river runs through the main portion of the work, with a paved river bank along the right hand side with several fishermen on it. There are two boats along the right side of the river and a few smaller boats in the background. In the distance is a bridge over the river and on the opposite bank there is a large cathedral with two towers and some trees behind it.
