The Mantel
Jacques Villon
Description
Although his work is always based on the visible world, Villon moved farther towards pure abstraction than others of his circle. In seeking to explain both this and the artist's interest in color printmaking, some critics have cited the influence of his service during the First World War as a camouflage artist.
