Description

Subject Matter:

Hockney was commissioned to create an image for the cover for the menu of the London restaurant, Odin's. This design shows the restaurant's owner Peter Langan; he often bartered with the local artists who frequented his restaurant, allowing them to exchange artworks for meals. During the late 60s and early 70s, Hockney frequented the restuarant and created numerous drawings and prints depicting the restaurant and its patrons. This work was created after he returned to London after living in Los Angeles, CA for a number of years.

Physical Description:

This print shows a drawing of a man holding an umbrella in his left hand. The man is only shown from mid-chest, has curly, short hair and wears a jacket and tie. Text at the top of the page identifies the portrait as "Peter at Odins". Next to this text, the print is numbered, signed and dated (u.r.) "62/80 David Hockney 72" in pencil.
