Description

Subject Matter:

This photograph shows an interior view of the mortuary temple of Ramses III at Medinet Habu, near the ancient Egyptian capital of Thebes. Rounded columns and rectangular piers face off from one another as they frame a long, shadowed corridor which constitutes the main subject of the photograph. A band of dark shadow forms a central vertical axis in the image, punctuated by a brightly illuminated stone fragment that appears to hover enigmatically in the lower center. Sunlight pours in through the gaps between the piers on the right-hand side, creating a veritable U-shape of varying light tones in the middle of the picture.

Physical Description:

This photograph shows a narrow corridor flanked on either side by a row of rounded, stone columns on the left and rectangular piers on the right.
