Description

Subject Matter:

Three Standing Figures shows three abstract people that are formed by geometric shapes. The piece exemplifies the shift in Fritz Wotruba’s style during the early years of the 1950s. As he traveled from Venice to Munich, Brussels, and London his style became increasingly geometric and reduced to basic shapes. The figures in this sculpture are comprised primarily of rectangles in different sizes and orientations.

Physical Description:

This relief sculpture shows three abstract human figures comprised of rectangular shapes set on a vertically orientated block. The figures and the background are textured and rough.
