Description

Subject Matter:

This photograph depicts a close-up view of a forest floor on the side of an Alaskan trail. Teeming with various species of plants, the undergrowth is seen here as a complex interweaving of leaves, sprigs, stems and flora. Blades of grass arc and weave throughout the picture, and the leaves of young trees emerge from the shadowed forest floor. Sprinkled across the image are numerous groupings of small white flowers, which form a constellation of white dots that contrast against the dark undergrowth. The photograph's sharp focus allows one to see the panoply of textures of the vegetal life forms, and offers a microcosmic view of the forest’s dynamic ecosystem.
