Description

Subject Matter:

This photograph depicts a view of a Tuscan olive grove during harvesting season. In order to collect as many olives as possible, pickers lay down finely meshed nets beneath the trees to catch any fallen fruit. Created within the grove, this photograph affords a view of the lightly colored nets laid out beneath the gnarled branches of the olive trees. The nets rest on the uneven ground, forming a billowing, rippling surface that appears almost wave-like, wispy and silken. This soft, shimmering quality is echoed by the shine on the olive trees’ leaves above.  Printed in a deep range of tones, this image imparts a sense of mystery and tranquil beauty.
