Subject Matter:

Utagawa Toyokuni I was a master of ukiyo-e and was known for his kabuki actor prints. This print falls in line with his specialty of portraying actors. The two women are in a "dancing act" as the title points out and are portrayed with movement and sound. 

Physical Description:

This long and narrow print depicts two women. The two women are depicted as "stacked" upon each other. One is kneeling on the ground facing left and has a drum in her arms. The other woman standing faces right and has an arm out. There is a vertical inscription in the bottom left.
