Subject Matter:
After traveling to Europe in the 1950s and 60s, Berkowitz became interested in how earth and sea visually melded with the sky. As part of the Washington Color School, he saw the natural world as a continuum that could be represented through color. With this piece, the artist sought to create a transcendental effect of light and color so that his work had an almost spiritual quality to them.
Physical Description:
Large abstract painting with an orange border that fades to purple and then becomes bright aqua-blue at the center.
