Subject Matter:

Rolf Cavael was a founding member of Zen 49, a group of German artists that were inspired by the basic concepts of Zen Buddhism. They formed in 1949 with the goal of creating a post-war art style that was specific to Germany. Cavael's work both with the group and before its formation was highly abstract and non-representational like this untitled print.

Physical Description:

In this abstract print, wide, curved black lines are layered over spots of pale bluish grey and shades of yellow. Wide swaths of grey exist in the background.
