Subject Matter:
This print was included in a portfolio of works by 30 artists created as a fundraising effort for the project, Experiments in Art and Technology. Noland's print for the portfolio is characteristic of his paintings from the late 1960s and early 1970s. It is exemplifies his interest in color field paintings and post-painterly abstraction. In works like this one, Noland explored the formal implications of using horzizontal bands of color.
Physical Description:
This horizontal print consists of horizontal blocks of color and stripes. The upper portion of the print is a dark brick-red with a thinner black horizontal stripe along the top edge. The lower portion of the print is beige with a thin orange stripe along the bottom edge.
