Description

Subject Matter:

Part of the Fortune portfolio "People and Places in Trouble," this photograph depicts the interior of an elderly couple's living room, where they sit, side by side, separated by a small side table. The wall behind them is adorned with religious icons: oval portraits of Jesus and Mary act as pendants to the crucifix that occupies the center. The side table is topped with a photograph and garlands of flowers. An illuminated light bulb sits exposed on top of a lamp to the left, lighting various surfaces of the scene with a stark glare.
