Description

Subject Matter:

Mackey's work, such as this one, is characterized by his depictions of people and faces. The lines of this painting give a sense of movement and energy to the work which was something Mackey often aimed to show in his art. The Detroit-based artist was self-taught and provided inspiration and guidance for his grandson, Detroit artist Tyree Guyton.

Physical Description:

This painting is created from a found wooden board with a textured surface. Attached are staples and paper, and it is painted all-over in an off-white. There are paint globs in some areas. At the center, there is a black line painting of a figure with his arms outstretched to the side.
