Description

Subject Matter:

Tom Gibbs creates abstract outdoor sculptures, often installed in public places. His work is installed at a number of universities across the United States, including on several campuses in his home state of Iowa. Gibbs apprenticed with German sculptor, Walter Arno and is inspired by landscapes, as well as, a variety of subjects including technology, communications, the philosophy of 20th century European history, and financial markets.

Physical Description:

This sculpture consists of a large smooth copper colored dome with abstract forms of the same copper colored steel extending from the edges and forward. The dome is cracked and welded together. Some of the abstract forms seem to be acting as repairs to hold it together.
