Description

Subject Matter:

Part of the series Morphemes Suite, this work is an example of Vasarely's search for the purest aesthetic elements in terms of shape and color. The term "morphemes" reiterates this theme of reducing the language, here a visua one, to the most essential without losing meaning. This work comes from the artist's "Black and White" period of the 1960's, during which time he began to develop the style which would become known as Op Art.

Physical Description:

This print has a series of geometric shapes and patterns in black and white. At the top are two rectangles in black, and below there are a series of dashes in alternating grid patters that create one large and two smaller rectangular shapes. At the bottom of the print are two white rectangles, in relief. The print is numbered and signed (l.r.) "39/75 -Vasarely-" in pencil.
