Description

Subject Matter:

In order to question the medium of painting, the artist creates works that often contain elements of collage and other materials in additon to paint. Marcaccio investigates what painting can become in a contemporary era when the digital age is becoming more and more prevalent. With his new artistic movement, called "Paintants," he works to use pictorial, photo-based and sculpture composites in order to "emphasize time-space relations." This work fits into the broader trend in painting of neo-Baroque aesthetics in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Physical Description:

Acrylic paint on canvas with collage elements, including a wooden protusion on the right side, the left side painted to look like canvas, and a clear, thicker medium on the right side of the piece creating a multi-textural appearance.
