Description

Subject Matter:

Illustration for Emile Verhaeren's "Belle Chair" (published Paris, E. Pellatan) depicting a nude female figure defined solely by contour and line, and stripped of all background context save for a few simple lines representing a shallow body of water. This severe reduction of form reflects Maillol’s interested in the woodcuts of Gauguin.

Physical Description:

Delineated image of a nude female figure viewed from the side bending over in a shallow body of water
