Description

As a young man in Hungary, Victor Vasarely studied medicine. Although he later gave up the idea of being a doctor, he maintained throughout his career a steadfast interest in science and experimentation. In his early years as an artist, Vasarely joined the Mühely, otherwise known as the Budapest Bauhaus, a group of artists interested in marrying art with technology.
Vasarely’s devotion to technology in art is showcased in Untitled. The work is a result of his exploration of the endless possibilities of pairing different shapes and colors. In constructing a work in this formulaic way, Vasarely strove to make his art more accessible. The viewer’s eye is drawn around the piece linking each of the parts of the image into a whole.
