Subject Matter:
This print is likely based on a preliminary drawing for one of Judd's early sculptures known as Untitled (DSS 42). This work is a sculpture that had been executed in 1963, made of wood and iron. The center is painted the iconic cadmium red which Judd is known for and which appears at the bottom of this print. The work epitimizes Judd's artistic philosophy which emphasized color and form and the relationship of the two as the most defining features of an artistic work.
Physical Description:
This is a lithographic drawing of a rectangular form. The rectangle widens out slightly at the top and bottom. In the center are thinner horizontal bars, partially shaded in. An inscription is included in the lower left of the painting and a stripe of red ink has been printed bellow the rectangular form.
