Description

Subject Matter:

This print is part of a portfolio made in collaboration with Experiments in Art and Technology (EAT) and Moderna Museet as a fundraising effort for American artists. Claes Oldenburg was best known for his pop art sculptures that critiqued the mass consumerism of the period. This print fits in with this aesthetic: Oldenburg draws a wall plug that looks like Mickey Mouse. An iconic symbol of American childhood, the transformation of Mickey into a mundane household object in some ways degrades the power he carries. But this transformation is a frequent reality in our consumer world.
