Description

Subject Matter:

This print is part of a portfolio made in collaboration with Experiments in Art and Technology (EAT) and Moderna Museet as a fundraising effort for artists. The neon sculptural works by Keith Sonnier play on the prominence of artifical lights in urban spaces, but also the aesthetic possibilities of light installations. This print departs from this aesthetic. Sonnier uses a more traditional medium and thus more traditional figural forms. The contrast of the black background and the pearly white forms creates the illusion of illumination. This illumination is not as harsh as some of Sonnier's neon sculptures. The inclusion of the edition number and the artist's signature across the center of the work rather than the bottom corner suggests that the mark of the artist is part of the work itself.
